EÜK : Straelen

LEGAL FORM

The Kollegium's legal entity is the registered non-profit association Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium Nordrhein-Westfalen in Straelen e.V. It was founded under the patronage of Heinrich Böll, Samuel Beckett, Max Frisch, Robert Minder, and Mario Wandruszka on 10 January 1978.

A board of eleven oversees the EÜK. The president of the Kollegium is Dr. Barbara Hendricks, and the vice president, Dr. Renate Birkenhauer, Straelen.

FINANCING

The work of the Kollegium is made financially possible above all due to the commitment of the Land North Rhine-Westphalia, which defrays the total operating costs.

In addition, the EÜK receives an annual subsidy from the town of Straelen and project funds from various institutions:

the Land North Rhine-Westphalia - das Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen

Kunststiftung NRW - Foundation for Art and Culture NRW;

DAAD - German Academic Exchange Service, Bonn and Berlin;

Deutscher Übersetzerfonds - German Translator's Fund, Berlin;

Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft "Perewest" - Non-profit Society "Perewest"

The Kollegium is not financed through proceeds or "user fees".

Living and working at the Kollegium are free of charge* for professional literary translators on principle since most are economically so badly off that they would not be able to pay "user fees".

 [* Telephone calls and materials used have to reimbursed.]
